Cadillac continues to wait for its first Formula 1 point after Sergio Perez was hit with a post-race penalty that stripped him of 10th place in the Monaco Grand Prix, handing Aston Martin an unlikely point instead.

Perez crossed the line in the final points-paying position following a dramatic race in Monte Carlo. His finish was followed by an investigation after the chequered flag altered the outcome.

The Mexican had already endured a busy afternoon. An early error on the grid saw him line up in the wrong position before the start, resulting in a drive-through penalty.

Despite that setback, Perez recovered through the field as incidents and penalties affected several rivals.

A red flag later interrupted the race after track surface damage at Rascasse triggered separate crashes for Lance Stroll and Charles Leclerc.

Perez faced issues at the restart

When the race resumed from a standing start, Perez’s positioning on the grid came under scrutiny.

After reviewing video footage and data, stewards concluded that the front-right wheel of Perez’s Cadillac was outside the designated starting box. The infringement carried the standard 10-second time penalty.

The sanction dropped Perez from 10th to 15th and last among the classified finishers. This denies Cadillac what would have been the team’s first Formula 1 point.

The revised result promotes Fernando Alonso into 10th place, handing Aston Martin its first point of the 2026 season.

The gain also moves the Silverstone-based squad ahead of Cadillac in the Constructors’ Championship standings.

Perez’s difficult day was further compounded by a reprimand for failing to follow the race director’s procedures regarding practice starts before the race.

What initially appeared to be a landmark result for Cadillac ultimately ended in disappointment. Now, the American outfit is still searching for its breakthrough point in Formula 1.
