Sauber's motorhome will make one last appearance at Monza

This weekend’s Italian Grand Prix will mark the last time that Sauber‘s current motorhome will be used in Formula 1 as the team prepares to morph into Audi in 2026.

Each team on the grid has a bespoke motorhome that is transported to numerous destinations around Europe to host personnel, alongside sponsors and VIP guests.

But with Monza representing the final stop on the European leg, the teams will have to make do with the hospitality structures in place at the remaining flyaway races.

This can either be complexes that local suppliers have provided or existing buildings that certain venues will have prepared for the teams to utilise during a weekend.

Regardless, the base that has housed Sauber since the 2006 San Marino Grand Prix will not be seen again once it’s packed away post-race at Monza on Sunday night.

The Hinwil-based squad’s motorhome is the longest-standing in the entire pit lane, with reigning Constructors’ Champions McLaren set to take on that record in 2026.

Audi has commissioned a brand-new structure to be built to coincide with the German marque’s maiden season in the sport as the Sauber moniker vanishes from F1.

“Preparations for our start in Formula 1 are moving at full speed,” Audi CEO Gernot Dollner addressed.

“We look forward to giving all fans a concrete preview of what to expect from us in Formula 1 starting next year.”

Nico Hulkenberg will miss Sauber’s current motorhome

Nico Hulkenberg, who had a stint with Sauber in 2013 before his return to the team this season, admitted it would be “emotional” to wave goodbye to the motorhome.

Asked whether he will miss Sauber’s hospitality unit, Hulkenberg told media including Motorsport Week: “Yeah. It’s served us and the team well.

“20 years. I think considering that, she’s in pretty good nick, good space. It’s true that this is the last one.

“A lot of stories have taken place here. I don’t know how many Grands Prix it did, but a fair amount. And definitely it’s going to be emotional.”

Questioned on whether he has seen the plans that Audi has drawn up for the motorhome that will be used from 2026, the German responded: “No, I haven’t actually.”
