McLaren has confirmed that Alex Dunne will make his second Formula 1 outing for the team in FP1 during the upcoming Italian Grand Prix weekend.
It will mark the second time the 19-year-old McLaren development driver will get behind the wheel of the MCL39, the first occasion coming in Austria.
Filling in for Lando Norris in FP1, Dunne turned heads in the paddock as he finished the session fourth, just 0.069 seconds off the pace of Oscar Piastri.
The Irishman has been competing in Formula 2, where he currently finds himself firmly in the title fight, having led the championship earlier in the season.
Dunne, who will replace Norris at Monza during Friday’s opening session, sits fifth in the championship, 30 points behind Leonardo Fornaroli out front.
Meanwhile, Dunne also participated in Formula E test sessions for NEOM McLaren during Season 11 in his role as the team’s reserve driver.
Dunne spoke about his excitement regarding his second F1 outing. “I’m super excited to be back for my second FP1 with McLaren at Monza this weekend,” he said.
“My first one in Austria was an extremely special for one for me, but to do it again at Monza, a track that is so historic and prestigious, is going to put a big smile on my face.
“So, really looking forward to it. Hopefully, I can build and improve on what was a strong outing in Austria and help Lando and Oscar as much as possible going into that weekend.”
