Cadillac casts assertive stance on approach to Christian Horner over potential F1 role

Christian Horner will not be returning to F1 yet

Cadillac has squashed speculation that the nascent Formula 1 team could represent a possible avenue for axed Red Bull boss Christian Horner to return to the series.

Horner’s decorated two-decade reign leading Red Bull was brought to an abrupt end last month as the organisation’s shareholders elected to remove him mid-season.

The Briton’s dismissal came as upheaval behind the scenes over the last 18 months has coincided with Red Bull experiencing an alarming decline in competitiveness.

Horner has been backed to make a comeback, though, with Cadillac’s impending debut as F1’s 11th team in 2026 prompting it to be named as a potential destination.

But TWG Motorsport boss Dan Towriss has cast an assertive response to such claims, insisting that he has complete faith in current Team Principal Graeme Lowdon.

“There have been no talks with Christian Horner, no plans to do that,” Towriss said. “So I’d like to officially shut down that rumour.

“Our support, belief, backing is 100 per cent in Graeme Lowden.”

Towriss’ stance comes as Cadillac has announced Sergio Perez, Horner’s ex-driver at Red Bull, will race alongside Valtteri Bottas in the team’s inaugural F1 campaign.

Lowdon has been entrusted to oversee the experienced duo, who have made over 500 starts between them and have achieved multiple wins with title-winning teams.

Having been a consultant to the original Andretti-led venture, Lowdon was appointed as the American marque’s team boss once General Motors took on the proposal.

Lowdon, whose previous F1 experience spans a role with the now-defunct Manor side, revealed there is an added challenge to operating a team across two countries.

“When it’s a multi-site like this, that becomes a massive challenge,” he told Autosport.

“And what you can’t have is an engineer here having to go up and down a particular hierarchy and then hop across, in our instance, not just a different geographic location, but a different country altogether, and then go up and down. So instead, it’s a kind of a different structure where it’s mission control instead of command and control.”
