Lando Norris closed the opening day of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix weekend by going quickest in FP2 under glorious sunshine at Silverstone.

The McLaren man’s 1:25.816s was enough to secure top spot in front of his home fans, 10,000 of whom are in his own grandstand at Stowe corner.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was second, two tenths behind, with team-mate Lewis Hamilton, third, eight thousandths further back, underlining a further improvement from the Scuderia.

Norris’ team-mate and chief title rival Oscar Piastri was fourth, with Max Verstappen fifth and Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli sixth.

Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was seventh, with the second Mercedes of George Russell in eighth.

The Racing Bulls pair of Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson rounded out the top 10, which was covered by eight tenths of a second.

Alex Albon was 11th for Williams, with Fernando Alonso 12th and Gabriel Bortoleto 13th, the latter pair fresh from their late-race duel at Spielberg.

Esteban Ocon’s Haas was 14th, with Yuki Tsunoda, around six tenths adrift of team-mate Verstappen’s time.

Carlos Sainz was 16th, suffering a spin on the exit of the final corner earlier in the session, and nearly collecting Hamilton in the process.

Nico Hulkenberg was 18th, with the Alpine duo of Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto 18th and 20th respectively, sandwiching the second Haas of the race’s fourth home driver, Oliver Bearman.
