IMSA has confirmed 22 entries for the Detroit Grand Prix sprint race on May 31, with 11 cars apiece in the GTP and GTD Pro categories.

Detroit hosts the fifth round of the 2025 SportsCar Championship schedule, the third of the sprint races, following the inaugural running last year.

Long Beach hosted the first street circuit sprint, also a 100-minute race, as Detroit is the second and final this year on a street circuit.

Porsche Penske has commanded the way so far with all of the GTP class victories, resulting in first and second places in the standings.

The #6 Porsche 963 duo of Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet took their first win last time out at Laguna Seca, but it has been the #7 pairing of reigning champions Nick Tandy and Felipe Nasr who have won the other four races, thus reigning in a championship lead.

BMW RLL, however, claimed all pole positions so far and has yet to convert them into victories.

BMW trails Porsche by 164 points in the Manufacturers’ standings, which is relatively little due to the way IMSA awards points; BMW are the second-best performing manufacturer by this measure, and pressure is increasing for them to end Porsche’s great form.

Last year, Wayne Taylor Racing’s #10 duo of Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor ended an extensive winless streak and as WTR arrives this time with Cadillac V-Series.R machinery, attention is on them to repeat the feat with the circuit based at General Motors’ doorstep.

In GTD Pro, AO Racing rides on a triple-race win streak with their Porsche 911 GT3.R machinery showcasing prowess, meanwhile, Corvette (part of General Motors) and Ford are put head-to-head as fierce Detroit-based rivals.
