McLaren appoints Alessandro Alunni Bravi to new role following Sauber exit

McLaren has appointed Alessandro Alunni Bravi as Chief Business Affairs Officer following his departure from the Sauber Formula 1 squad.

Sauber confirmed Alunni Bravi’s departure last week, whereby he’d held the role of Managing Director and Team Representative.

In his new role at McLaren, which begins on February 1, Alunni Bravi will oversee racing business matters including legal, driver development, commercial, driver contract management and rights holders/governing body management.

Alunni Bravi will assume leadership of the McLaren Driver Development programme from Stephanie Carlin, who will move onto a new role within the F1 team, reporting to Andrea Stella.

Amid Alunni Bravi’s appointment, McLaren has announced the departure of Chief Communications Officer Steve Atkins, whose two-year tenure with the team ends due to personal reasons.

“I’m delighted to have Alessandro joining us with his extensive expertise and motorsport background,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown. 

“Alongside managing our legal and driver development functions, he will also provide invaluable support on all professional driver business management matters, racing governance activities across our various rights holders and governing body relationships and broad business support to all our racing series as needed. 

“We look forward to welcoming him to the McLaren Racing family in February.

“I’d also like to thank Steve for his contribution to McLaren Racing’s success over the last two seasons and I wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Alunni Bravi added: “McLaren is a team I have been a huge fan of my whole life, and it, therefore, sparks special emotions personally to have the opportunity to now work with such an amazing group of people.
