The FIA has announced that a fourth DRS zone will be in operation at this weekend’s Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix in a bid to improve the overtaking opportunities.
The Marina Bay’s tight streets and limited straights have made it renowned as being a circuit where passing another car has been challenging since its debut in 2008.
There were discussions held involving the teams over an additional DRS zone being implemented 12 months ago to coincide with revisions to the track configuration.
However, the FIA disclosed prior to the round – the sole race that Red Bull was unable to win last term – that there had been “no clear consensus” to make that happen.
But that has changed this time around as it has been published that DRS will be available to the drivers between Turns 14 and 16 on the current iteration of the circuit.
This will provide the drivers with two attempts to open up the slot in their rear wing in quick succession as the third DRS zone has remained between Turns 13 and 14.
