The Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team has announced that it will run special liveries for the upcoming Indianapolis 500, with the theme being the team’s achievements in the Triple Crown of Motorsport.

Each of the team’s four entries in the Indy 500 will have a unique livery, a majority of which will be unveiled this upcoming weekend at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The #5 entry of Pato O’Ward will feature an all-black livery in honor of the F1 GTR that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, the #6 of Felix Rosenqvist will run a livery reminiscent of the MP4/2 livery that won Monaco in 1984, and the #7 of Alexander Rossi will run a full papaya scheme to commemorate McLaren’s Indy 500 victory in 1974.

Tony Kanaan’s #66 car will also carry a special livery throughout the Month of May, one which honors the collective achievement by the team.

“We are proud to have achieved motorsport’s prestigious Triple Crown as a constructor,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown. “In our 60th year, we are shining a light on the legacy of the team that Bruce McLaren built and role this plays in fueling our ambitions for the future of the team.

“As a life-long McLaren fan, I fondly remember watching Alain Prost’s dramatic 1984 Monaco victory and the incredible moment when the team conquered Le Mans on its debut entry. Meanwhile Johnny Rutherford’s first Indy 500 win in papaya is one of the most important moments in McLaren Racing history.

“I can’t wait to see our four-car, star-studded lineup flying the colors of our Triple Crown victories at this year’s Indy 500.”

The Triple Crown of Motorsport is considered to be one of the most difficult achievements, and most prestigious, in all of motor racing.

Only one driver has ever completed the Triple Crown on his own, with Graham Hill winning the Monaco Grand Prix five times, the Indianapolis 500 in 1966, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1972.

Seven other drivers have won two of the three candidate races during their careers, which constitutes an achievement in and of itself.

The liveries for the team’s full time drivers will be unveiled this Friday, April 14 in California, ahead of the team’s participation in the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
