Pirelli confirms interest in new F1 tyre tender process

Pirelli has confirmed its interest in the new tyre tender process to continue its supply of race rubber to Formula 1.

However, it has not formally declared its decision to be part of the selection process, stating it is waiting until it undertakes a complete review of the FIA’s document.

Earlier this week, the FIA published the invitation to all interested parties to provide tyres to F1, as well as the junior Formula 2 and Formula 3 categories.

The period covers 2025 to 2027, with an option in place for the 2028 campaign.

Pirelli’s declaration comes as no surprise, as it has invested heavily in the sport since it became its sole tyre supplier in 2011.

The Italian manufacturer has produced various tyre formulas during its stint in F1, including a switch to 18-inch rims in 2022.

The FIA outlined various targets for the new tender, but remain largely unchanged to the tyres currently in use.

“The framework described by the FIA is closely aligned to Pirelli’s motorsport strategy and so is of great interest, with the Italian company having been Global Tyre Partner to the sport for more than a decade, since 2011,” Pirelli said.

“A definitive decision about Pirelli’s participation in the selection process will naturally be taken after a detailed examination of the FIA’s document.”

No other tyre manufacturer has publicly declared interest in the new tender process.
