F1 announced a new agreement with the Interlagos circuit to keep the iconic Sao Paulo GP on the calendar through 2035.
A new contract extension allows F1 to continue racing in Brazil through 2035, keeping the legendary Interlagos circuit on the calendar for five more years beyond its current contract. With more than 50 years of history on the track, the Sao Paulo GP will continue to be the home of chaotic and iconic races.
The iconic circuit is widely regarded as one of the most thrilling on the F1 calendar. Not only does it bring the passion of Brazilian fans and exciting racing, but it also has a long history of delivering unpredictable, memorable moments. Fans remember moments where championships have been decided on the track, such as Lewis Hamilton’s first of seven titles, which came in 2008, and Fernando Alonso in 2005 and 2006.
Brazil remains a crucial part of F1’s history
Fans will be delighted to see the exciting track remain on the calendar for longer. It is expected to keep delivering thrilling wheel-to-wheel action and memorable moments for both fans and drivers.
“Brazil is an important part of Formula 1’s history and our future, and I am delighted that this five-year extension will see us continue racing in Sao Paulo until 2035,” President and CEO of F1 Stefano Domenicali said to F1 of the contract extension.
“The passion of our Brazilian fans is extraordinary, and every time we return to Interlagos we feel their energy in the grandstands and in the city of Sao Paulo.
“Brazil has produced an incredible 33 Formula 1 drivers, including Gabriel Bortoleto and Rafael Camara who are racing this weekend in front of their home crowd, which will add to the many previous unforgettable racing moments in Sao Paulo.
“The continued success and excitement surrounding the event shows why it holds such a special place on our calendar, and this agreement underlines our long-term commitment to Brazil.
“I would like to thank the Mayor of Sao Paulo, Nunes, and the President and CEO of Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Alan Adler, for their continued commitment and investment. Together, we will build on this success and make the experience even better for our fans in the years ahead.”
