Arvid Lindblad was disappointed in himself after qualifying eighth for the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix, after hoping for a better result.
Lindblad was having a strong Saturday in Mexico, making it Q3 in qualifying with the pace to start near the front of the grid on Sunday. However, in the final part of qualifying, the Racing Bulls driver seemed to struggle, which came out of nowhere and left him behind the top teams.
Speaking to the media after the session, Lindblad was dejected and, when asked about how the session went, simply stated:”Pretty bad.”
He elaborated, explaining to the media, including Motorsport Week, that it was surprising and started in Q2 with a lack of grip.
“I just had no grip in Q2 for some reason. I don’t really know what happened and what changed. Until that point things were pretty comfortable to be honest. It felt good. A bit strange.”

Changes from FP1 to qualifying
Lindblad looked strong all weekend, with a competitive pace throughout FP3. The British Swede driver was on track to challenge the top four teams in qualifying but was left wanting more. Lindblad couldn’t explain the changes from FP3 to qualifying, admitting there are questions to answer.
“The balance I had at the start of qualifying was completely the opposite to what I had in the last run of Q2, so I don’t understand what happened.
“We made a couple of very small tweaks but nothing that would explain why it was so different. Some questions to answer for sure.”
When Lindblad was asked if the tactic is just to throw everything into the first corner, he said: “Pretty much, yeah. We’ll see what we can do off the line and hopefully make up some spots.”
He also said that with the parc ferme regualtions, there won’t be many changes to the car ahead of the race.
“No, not that I can think of anymore. Obviously, we can’t change much at all. Nothing that springs to mind.”
