Red Bull Team Principal and CEO Laurent Mekies has said the team has brought a potential fix to end Max Verstappen‘s radio troubles at the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix.
The last two race weekends had seen the Dutchman struggle to communicate with his pit wall via the team radio.
At Singapore, Verstappen was completely inaudible over the course of the entire race. At Austin, last weekend, the 28-year-old faced similar problems.
Speaking to media including Motorsport Week at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, on Friday, Mekies revealed that the Milton-Keynes-based squad had brought a potential fix to Mexico with the Frenchman expecting “a step in the quality of our communications”.
“Hopefully, we have a fix for this race,” he said.
“The guys have been doing a very big deep dive to make sure it’s not only going away for a race or two, but to make sure we will also make a step in the quality of our communications.
“There have been a lot of changes for this weekend. Max hasn’t been driving yet, but this morning it was certainly at a much better level on both cars. So, I hope it is definitely fixed now.”

Red Bull ready to move on at Mexico after “average” F1 US GP
After back-to-back wins at Sepang and the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Verstappen had come to the Circuit of the Americas, last Sunday, with hopes of getting his treble.
That said, despite a strong showing during the 56-lap race, the Dutchman called Red Bull’s execution “average” after taking the chequered flag in third.
Mekies seems to agree with the four-time F1 World Champion. The former Ferrari man admitted to an overall “untidy Sunday”, insisting that the team would do a lot of things differently, this weekend.
“Max is correct. We felt we had a fairly untidy Sunday,” Mekies added.
“In fairness, Kimi and Mercedes were a touch too fast for us, certainly on Sunday in Austin. But we were not at the same sort of performance level as we were in Malaysia and Singapore.
“Some of that was expected. Some of that was something we feel we can fight back with. So, there are certainly a few things that we will tackle differently this weekend.”
Verstappen only took part in FP2 on Friday, finishing fifth overall.
