Martin Brundle has highlighted a tough driver dilemma facing Racing Bulls as they evaluate their lineup for the 2027 Formula 1 season.
The Faenza team hasn’t yet finalised its 2027 seat allocations.
Decision-makers must choose whether to keep current pairing Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad or promote Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov, who is contending for the Formula 2 crown.
Sky Sports F1 pundit Martin Brundle believes replacing either current driver presents a major headache for team management.
Lawson has spearheaded the midfield contest with 75 points this year, while British rookie Lindblad has added 38 points to place Racing Bulls fifth in the Constructors’ Championship.
Lawson strengthened his position with a standout performance in Singapore, finishing fifth in the Sprint and taking seventh in the Grand Prix. Reflecting on that drive, Sky F1 commentator David Croft said:
“Liam Lawson looks like he’s been in a right old race today as well. Seventh place for Liam Lawson.
“It’s a great points haul again for a Racing Bulls team who prior to this had scored in seven of the last 10 Singapore Grands Prix. Make that now eight of the last 11.”
Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane confirmed that driver selections for 2027 will happen “in the coming weeks.”
He emphasised that as Red Bull’s junior squad, the team faces a unique responsibility to foster talent for the parent organisation’s future.

Brundle has his say
Addressing that balance, Brundle issued a clear warning:
“If Racing Bulls want to introduce a new young driver, they’ve got a major problem on their hands, because Lawson’s driving so beautifully, and Lindblad too, generally speaking.”
Writing in his post-Singapore column, Brundle expanded on Lawson’s recent momentum:
“This is a good opportunity to give Liam Lawson a deserved shout-out.
“Driving for Racing Bulls, he finished seventh in the challenging conditions at Sepang the previous week, followed that up with fifth in the Singapore Sprint and then secured another seventh-place finish in Sunday’s Grand Prix.
“As the highest-placed driver outside the top four teams, Lawson put together an excellent run across a demanding series of races.”
The 2026 grid now heads into the upcoming Americas triple-header, starting at the Circuit of The Americas.
