Christian Horner has offered his congratulations to former employer Red Bull after its milestone victory at the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.
The Milton Keynes-based squad secured its first victory of the season in Sepang, with Max Verstappen taking a dominant win after an overall one hour and 40 minute delay to proceedings.
Red Bull’s success had an additional layer, as it was also the first-ever victory for the team as a standalone manufacturer.
2026 has seen the first year of its Powertrains division powering its car – the RB22 – in collaboration with Ford.
The win marked the American giants’ first since Giancarlo Fisichella’s for Jordan at the 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix, and its first pole position since Rubens Barrichello’s for Stewart at the 1999 French Grand Prix.
Horner was instrumental in the decision for Red Bull to stand on its own four wheels, as it were, instead of being a customer of other engine manufacturers, as it had to great success in the past with Renault and Honda.
And taking to his Instagram story, Horner wrote: “From a hole in the ground to race winner in five years.
“Huge congratulations to Red Bull Ford Powertrains, Max and the whole team. An incredible achievement!”
Horner has been the subject of further speculation regarding a potential return to Formula 1 in the past fortnight, having been inadvertently linked with the Team Principal role at Ferrari.
Telling The Times that leading the Maranello-based outfit was a “dream,” the rumour mill circulating around its incumbent boss, Fred Vasseur, generated at considerable speed.

So much so, that the Scuderia were forced to issue a short statement offering Vasseur their full backing.
The rumour was further debunked by F1 commentator and pundit Martin Brundle, who revealed that, after a phone call with Horner, that he was not actively seeking a role with Ferrari.
