Andrea Kimi Antonelli is out of Q1 after hitting the wall during qualifying for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver was on a flying lap around the streets of Baku when he clipped the inside wall at Turn 1.
Antonelli suffered damage to his front-left suspension, with his engineer Peter Bonnington suggesting a broken trackrod or upright.
That said, the 20-year-old was keen to drive his W17 back into the pits for a quick patch up, but was advised to stop the car out on track.
Antonelli had posted the seventh-fastest lap of the Q1 session at the time of his incident.
As Q1 came to a close, however, the Italian driver was bumped down to 15th, and is slated to start the Grand Prix on Saturday from the eighth-row of the grid.
Heading into the race weekend at Baku, Antonelli led the drivers’ standings from his team-mate George Russell with a handy 81 points advantage.
