Aston Martin Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack believes the “big roadblocks” with the 2027 Formula 1 regulations are fixed as Fernando Alonso nears a decision on his future.
The all-new technical regulations have divided opinions in the paddock. Drivers like Alonso have been critical of the 50-50 split between the ICE and battery.
The 45-year-old has also been quite vocal about how the enjoyment factor from the current cars would decide his future in the sport.
With the Spaniard yet to explicitly commit to the 2027 season with Aston Martin, Krack believes the major “roadblocks” with the current technical rule-set have been ironed out by the FIA for the next two years.
“I cannot really comment much more [on Alonso’s future] than that because I think the regulations or the roadmap for the regulations for 2027-2028 have been heavily laid out,” he told media including Motorsport Week on media day ahead of the Azerbaijan GP.
“Now, probably, there’s always going to be a little bit of fine-tuning, as we have seen also this year, but I think the big roadblocks have been fixed, so I don’t expect a massive deviation from this.”

The FIA has envisaged a 60/40 split with the power unit by 2028 amongst other tweaks to the overall rule-set and format.
This might entice Alonso to ply his trade with the Silverstone-based team for at least one more year.
That said, Alonso did not hint at a contract extension in the works but pledged that he “will be around” the sport for years to come, whether as a driver or not.
“Yes, I will be around,” he told media including Motorsport Week.
“As I said many times, I will keep driving, if it’s in Formula 1 or other categories, I don’t really know, and while I’m in Formula 1, I will be with this team, driving or not driving, because I love the sport.
“Formula 1 is my life, motorsport is my life, and it will be always.”
Alonso would hope for a competitive outing at Baku to reinforce his commitment to Aston Martin as he nears crunch time to make a final decision on his future.
