F1 in October 2026: UK TV guide, weekend start times and races to watch

The Singapore GP hosted Round 18 in 2025

The Singapore Grand Prix always delivers a close race

Two Grands Prix in October, and the first of them is a sprint weekend under floodlights in Singapore. Marina Bay from 9 to 11 October carries three competitive sessions rather than one, then Formula 1 crosses to Austin a fortnight later to open the American triple header.

Anyone hunting the Formula 1 TV schedule this weekend needs one correction first: BBC Formula 1 coverage is radio and online, not live television, and Channel 4 Formula 1 output is highlights rather than live races outside Silverstone. Odds on the title run-in move sharply after sprint weekends, and licensed betting sites publish those markets alongside the session timetable, which is a practical way to read how the paddock rates each driver before qualifying.

Season state entering October

This is the first year of a full regulation reset, and the grid changed with it. Cadillac joined as an eleventh team with Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez — a field size not seen since 2016 — and the reset brought fresh manufacturer programmes, with Audi Formula 1 among the new works entries. Britain’s Arvid Lindblad is the only rookie.

The calendar changed too. Twenty-two rounds remain after the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix were cancelled in April, Madrid replaced Imola with a September debut, and the season now runs from Melbourne in March to Abu Dhabi on 4 to 6 December. George Russell won the opener in Australia, which set the tone for a British presence at the front.

UK coverage: Sky Sports, Channel 4 and the radio option

Sky Sports F1 holds the live rights in the United Kingdom and Ireland through to 2034, and every session of both October rounds airs there. Access runs through Sky, NOW and Virgin Media, and a NOW Sports day pass covers a single weekend without a full subscription.

Channel 4 carries free-to-air highlights of every race plus live coverage of the British Grand Prix, which means Singapore and Austin are highlights only on terrestrial television. For Formula 1 highlights beyond that, the official F1 YouTube channel posts race edits, and F1 TV Access at £2.29 a month offers live timing and archive without live race coverage.

Two notes on the other results people land on. BBC Sport provides radio commentary and text rather than live pictures, so BBC Sport Formula 1 pages complement the broadcast rather than replace it. Threads on Reddit Formula 1 point to unofficial streams, which carry malware risk and no reliable feed.

The October weekends, session by session

Singapore is seven hours ahead of the UK while British Summer Time holds, so a 20:00 local start lands at 13:00 here. BST ends on 25 October — the Austin race day — making that round an eight-hour gap instead. Both rounds sit in the published calendar.

Friday 9 October: Practice and sprint qualifying

A sprint weekend compresses the usual programme. Friday carries one practice session and then sprint qualifying, which sets the Saturday grid, so the only long green-flag running of the weekend happens before lunch UK time. Teams bringing upgrades have a single hour to validate them, and Marina Bay punishes a car that arrives unbalanced.

Saturday 10 October: Sprint and Grand Prix qualifying

The sprint runs first and pays points, then conventional qualifying decides Sunday’s grid. Two competitive sessions on one day is where a Formula 1 driver with a quick car but poor Friday preparation gets caught, because there is no practice left to fix it.

Sunday 11 October: The Grand Prix

Marina Bay is a night race on a street circuit where safety cars are routine rather than possible. Track position outweighs raw pace, humidity punishes drivers across two hours, and strategy hinges on when a caution falls rather than on tyre modelling.

Drivers, updates and grid questions

The British Formula 1 drivers carry real weight this season. Russell opened the year with a win, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton hold the other established seats, and Lindblad is the rookie whose first Singapore weekend arrives without the practice mileage a normal round would give him.

The regulation reset means upgrade paths still diverge sharply, so a package built for a high-downforce street circuit will not necessarily transfer to Austin’s long straights. That is October’s real grid question: which car is quick everywhere, and which one is circuit-specific.

What decides October outcomes

Five variables carry more weight than anything else across these two weekends.

Overtaking aids: the 2026 rules replace the DRS Formula 1 fans knew with a new system, so passing patterns at both circuits are still being learned.

Safety cars at Marina Bay: a street layout turns a well-timed caution into a free pit stop and can decide the race outright.

Tyre allocation and degradation: a sprint weekend removes the practice running teams normally use to model wear.

Reliability under new regulations: first-year power units and gearboxes fail more often, and a single retirement reshapes the title maths.

Weather windows: Singapore carries a genuine tropical shower risk after dark, while Austin in late October can swing twenty degrees between sessions.

Final forecast

Expect the sprint to matter more than the Grand Prix for championship movement. Eight extra points on Saturday, combined with a Sunday race where a safety car can scramble the order regardless of pace, makes Singapore the round where a points lead is likeliest to change hands without anyone driving badly.

Austin should reward the car with the better straight-line efficiency rather than the one that handled Marina Bay’s walls, so a split result across the two rounds is more probable than a sweep. For British viewers, Russell and Norris are the realistic podium candidates; Lindblad’s target is finishing both races on the lead lap. Betting markets on either round are for over-18s, and BeGambleAware offers free confidential support.

FAQ

When and at what time is the next Formula 1 race?
The Singapore Grand Prix runs from 9 to 11 October at Marina Bay, with practice and sprint qualifying on Friday, the sprint and qualifying on Saturday, and the race on Sunday. Singapore sits seven hours ahead of BST, so a 20:00 local start is 13:00 in the UK. Confirm exact session times on the broadcaster’s listings.

Where can I watch F1 live in the UK this weekend?
Sky Sports F1, available through Sky, NOW and Virgin Media, carries every session live. Channel 4 shows free-to-air highlights of each race and was live only for the British Grand Prix. BBC Sport provides radio and text coverage rather than live pictures.

Who is the favourite and how do the standings move?
Markets favour the drivers in the quickest cars over a street circuit that rewards track position, with British interest centred on Russell and Norris. A sprint win adds eight points before Sunday, so a driver who takes both can swing a title gap by more than a single race weekend normally allows.

What replaced DRS in 2026?
The new technical regulations phase out the drag reduction system in its old form as part of a package intended to allow closer racing. Overtaking now depends on a different aerodynamic and energy deployment mechanism, which is why passing counts at each circuit this season are not comparable with previous years.
