In October this year, Honda Racing is implementing a leadership change in its F1 Power Unit [PU] development programme to accelerate PU development.
The Japanese marque has returned to F1 this season with enormous difficulty, its returning PU made for Aston Martin suffering performance deficit issues.
Honda has worked tirelessly to remedy the problems, and has introduced one ADUO-assisted upgrade, with the Silverstone-based squad becoming much faster from its pre-season baseline.
Yoichiro Fukao, currently deputy leader of the F1 project and head of the software division, will assume the role of large project leader, succeeding Tetsushi Kakuda, who has led PU development to date.
Following the introduction of the new regulations in 2026, and with further regulatory changes expected from 2027 onwards, Honda hopes to build a robust development framework and deliver a competitive PU by transitioning to the new structure early.
