Formula 2 is headed to Madrid for the first time, with the series debuting in the brand-new Madring for the closing half of the 2026 season.
Specially built for its debut, the Madring offers a unique blend of street and permanent on-track action. It’s a fast track that pushes drivers to the limit throughout its flowing corners and blind entries.
The track has been compared to aspects of Budapest and Jeddah by the drivers who have been around the circuit so far. A few Formula 1 teams have tested the track, and Formula 3 held its in-season test around the Madrid track. However, conditions and expectations remain largely a mystery heading into the weekend.
Despite the lack of information, F2 will have just one 45-minute practice session to get up to speed. Track time is even more vital heading into the qualifying session later in the afternoon.
The title fight
Nikola Tsolov currently leads the flight with 177 points, with Camara overtaking Gabriele Mini for second with 166 points and Mini with 147. Though Tsolov has been leading the pack for a while, the margins are shrinking, with Camara closing the gap over the previous rounds.
Camara took his fifth pole position of the season and claimed second in the Feature Race in Monza and has been in fine form, while Tsolov has missed out on the Podium since the Spa Feature Race before the summer break, and the momentum has shifted.
With just 11 points separating them currently and Camara with the momentum, this weekend could see the F3 champion make an important step towards claiming back-to-back titles.
However, Tsolov and Camara aren’t the only fight in the field; with Mini 30 points adrift of Tsolov, he’s still in the fight. The Italian driver led the pack through the first half of the season but has struggled to replicate that early form in recent rounds, slipping from the lead to third.
The 2026 season still has four rounds remaining, which keeps the title up for grabs for much of the field.
