Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher requires surgery after dislocating his shoulder and fracturing a bone during a celebrity jet ski event in Germany.
The six-time GP winner was competing alongside TV entertainer Stefan Raab at the regatta course when the pair crashed.
Schumacher made it into the individual final before teaming up with Raab for the main event.
However, the duo tumbled into the water twice in quick succession.
Schumacher dislocated his shoulder while attempting to right the jet ski in the water.
Hospital scans on Sunday morning revealed a small bone fracture alongside the dislocation, confirming the need for a surgical procedure.
Despite the injury, the Sky Germany pundit expects to recover in time for next weekend’s Italian GP at Monza.
“The operation will be over quickly and then I should be back in Monza as well,” Schumacher said. “I only have to hold my microphone with my left hand!”
Schumacher cleared event organisers of any responsibility, lightheartedly attributing the incident to trying to turn the heavy watercraft around too quickly.
