The first race on Markham’s new street course had a bit of everything, including six cautions, trouble for the race favorites, and nearly a first time winner.

After multiple drivers took turns leading the event, Marcus Ericsson blasted through to the lead with five laps remaining to claim his fifth IndyCar victory by a margin of over seven seconds.

Romain Grosjean nearly held on to claim his first win, but slipped to second in the end. Will Power rounded out the podium after starting at the back of the field.

Drivers largely made it through the first turns of the race without incident despite running four-wide at times on a track that is barely wide enough to accommodate.

The rest of the race did not go so smoothly, however. Six cautions and many damaging incidents led to favorite Louis Foster and seven others retiring from the race early.

No breaks are left on the schedule, and drivers will tackle another brand new street course next weekend in the nation’s capital.
