Flavio Briatore reveals huge Alpine F1 value claim amid Otro bid

The Renault Group has, according to Flavio Briatore, received a bid for the coveted 24 percent stake in Alpine Formula 1 team, leading to the claim of a huge valuation.

The Enstone-based squad has been seeking buyers for the stake for some time, with Mercedes having apparently been interested, via a group led by Toto Wolff.

His old rival and former Red Bull boss Christian Horner was also linked with spearheading a group to make the purchase, amid ongoing rumours of his plotting of a return to F1.

But, as of now, the stake – owned by Otro Capital – is still up for grabs, as the team gears up for a major shift with a forthcoming title sponsorship deal with fashion giants Gucci.

Speaking to The Race Business, Briatore, when put to him that Forbes’ valuation of Alpine is $2.45 billion, disagreed: “No, no, we are more.”

The executive advisor continued: “We have an offer, we have an [offer] for the 24 percent of Otro, the valuation [is] 3.2 [billion].

“So we have 40 percent of the valuation of Renault. All Renault is worth 8.3, and we’re working at this 3.5 [billion] valuation. So we’re representing 40 percent or 50 percent.”

Alpine stake situation “makes no difference” to Briatore

It is not yet known who is behind the supposed bid, but Briatore stated that it is “not really my problem,” adding: “This is more the issue of Renault.

“Sure, to have a partner, of 24%, I expect somebody to give not only the finance, [but to] give some help in technology or whatever, or whatever in finance.

“But in September, I don’t think nothing [will] happen dramatically, because I see it as very difficult for somebody to buy 24% of one company, with no agreement with the majority.

“I never see somebody spend 600 million to buy a minority, to be signed as partner, if you don’t agree with the majority. See what happens.

“Renault is negotiating. For the team point of view, for me, it makes no difference. We have Otro, now tomorrow we have somebody else.”
