Andrea Kimi Antonelli is facing a possible grid penalty for Formula 1‘s Hungarian Grand Prix after an alleged failure to slow after a Max Verstappen spin brought out the yellow flags.
The Italian qualified fourth for tomorrow’s race at the Hungaroring, the Mercedes package being unable to keep up with Ferrari and a resurgent McLaren, with Lando Norris taking pole position ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
Verstappen could only muster sixth place in his Red Bull, and spun on his final run whilst trying to improve his grid position.
The Dutchman lost the back end of the RB22 on the final corner, bringing out yellow flags, the car coming to a halt off the circuit, and onto the tarmac run-off area.
Antonelli completed his lap, but has been noted for potentially failing to slow sufficiently.
The title-leader will join Hamilton in an anxious wait for the verdict from the stewards, after the seven-time World Champion was also noted by race control.
Hamilton missed out on pole position by just one hundredth of a second from Norris’ time, but is under investigation for impeding his countryman’s teammate, Oscar Piastri.
