IndyCar veteran Ryan Hunter-Reay has announced that he will take part in next year’s 111th running of the Indianapolis 500.
The tenured driver will run a fourth car for Arrow McLaren, reprising a role he filled last year alongside the team’s full time drivers.
Hunter-Reay now also officially serves as Arrow McLaren’s sporting director, although he was responsible for most of those duties informally this past May when he also climbed behind the wheel of the #31.
“I have unfinished business with the 500, and so does this team,” said Hunter-Reay. “Our focus is on Indy; learn from the past, and our number one goal is to win the Indy 500.
“We have ample amount of time to be fully prepared in working toward a big month of May in 2027 racing alongside Pato, Scott [Dixon] and Felix [Rosenqvist]. The four of us certainly know our way around the Speedway.
“In the meantime, working with the team full time as Sporting Director offers a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on our ambitious development plans for the 2027 season, the Indy 500 and beyond.”
Hunter-Reay has a strong background at Indianapolis, having won the 2014 Indy 500 and completed 18 races throughout his career.
He stepped away from a full time IndyCar schedule after the 2021 season, but has been running the famous race as a one-off entry from 2023 onwards.
Arrow McLaren, with its revised driver lineup for 2027, will have an incredibly skilled set of drivers for the biggest race of the year.
Scott Dixon won the 2018 Indy 500, Felix Rosenqvist won the race just a couple months ago, and Pato O’Ward has come very close to victory, earning five top five finishes in the past six years.
The 111th Indianapolis 500 will be held on May 30, 2027.
