The FIA have made a decision regarding Lewis Hamilton’s yellow flag infringement at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton has received a reprimand for failing to slow for a single yellow flag. The yellow flags came out on Lap 38 of the British GP when Nico Hulkenberg’s Audi stopped on track at Turn 9.
FIA Stewards reviewed the incident and determined that Hamilton entered the sector before any yellow flags had been activated. The first light panel he passed after turn 9 was still showing green, and the yellow warning only appeared on his steering wheel display when he was already nearing the end of the yellow flag zone.
As a result, they concluded that Hamilton did not have enough time to react.
They also accepted that the Ferrari driver had just been battling with Max Verstappen, and was consequently anticipating a counter-attack from the Red Bull rather than looking at the light panel at the end of the sector.

Hamilton did not fully comply with single yellow requirements
However, the stewards ultimately ruled that Hamilton did not make a noticeable reduction in speed. Drivers are required to lift under a single yellow flag, which he had not done.
Given the circumstances of the yellow flag timing and previous battle with Verstappen, they deemed a reprimand to be the appropriate penalty. Meaning the home race hero keeps his podium finish.
The yellow flag infringement was not Hamilton’s only interaction with the stewards at Silverstone. He received a time penalty for a false start that set him back by five seconds.
The Brit found his way to P2 before pitting under a late race safety car, losing out to George Russell. He finished third and now sits just seven points behind Russell in the driver’s standings.
Teammate Charles Leclerc was victorious after a bout of poor form, but the Scuderia will be disappointed to miss out on a 1-2 finish.
