Kevin Magnussen was caught up in a heated exchange with Noah Gragson after wheel-to-wheel battle went awry for the ex-Formula 1 driver on his NASCAR debut.
Magnussen made his Cup Series debut with the #91 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet, at San Diego, during the Anduril 250, on Sunday.
The former McLaren, Renault and Haas driver put in a decent qualifying to start the race from 21st, even getting into the top 20 for the majority of the race.
At the chequered flag, however, the Danish racing driver had fallen to 27th in the 39-car field – impeded not only by strategy but also a few close calls with his fellow competitors on track.
Magnussen, pretty well known in F1 for his combustive personality, was embroiled in a race-long scrap with Front Row Motorsports’ Noah Gragson.
Two separate incidents caught Gragson’s ire. First, when Magnussen seemingly drove straight into the back of his car – with the forthcoming straight seeing the duo trade paint consistently.
The second incident saw the chasing Magnussen spin Gragson with the 27-year-old taking damage from a resulting bang with the barriers and sending him out of the race entirely.
After the event, Gragson confronted Magnussen on pit road. “What’s your f****** problem,” he said.
“You guys come over here, you f****** drive off into the corner, just because you got fenders on it.”
Magnussen, however, was in no mood to entertain Gragson. “Get the f*** out of my face,” retorted the ex-Haas F1 driver.
Gragson, though, kept pushing the issue prompting Magnussen to finally respond with, “My problem is you in my face. You don’t understand English, or what? I’m saying f*** off.”
This particular melee was quickly interrupted by a PR representative from Gragson’s camp.
When questioned later, Magnussen brushed off the incident while joking that he had never faced such a standoff in his racing career before but had seen enough of NASCAR to know what was coming.
