Charles Leclerc has retired from the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix upon a race restart after a Safety Car period, caused by an identical crash, bringing out the red flags.
The Safety Car was signalled to enter the track after Lance Stroll crashed at the Anthony Noughes corner, planting his Aston Martin nose-first into the outside wall.
When racing began, race leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli lead the field away again, with Leclerc, in third, not appearing.
TV cameras quickly cut to the Ferrari #16, in the exact same spot. Leclerc, anguished, hit his steering wheel in frustration.
“Honestly, I’m not even going to take the **** blame!” the enraged home hero said over radio. “These *** brakes!”
The red flag was subsequently brought out, with a track inspection from the Race Director Rui Marques underway.
