Guenther Steiner’s comments about the outspoken views from Max Verstappen on the new Formula 1 regulations were met with some verbal brutality from the Dutchman’s father, Jos.
Verstappen Jr has been vocal in his dislike of the new ruleset from before the new season even began, initially likening it to “Formula E on steroids” during pre-season testing in Bahrain.
Further damning assessments have led to an unhappy Verstappen intimating he may quit F1, having sought fun from endurance racing, such as his participation in the Nurburgring 24 Hours.
A common rebuttal of Verstappen has been that he would be complaining less if Red Bull’s RB22 was perhaps faster and able to challenge for wins, something that Guenther suggested, who was quoting as saying: “If Verstappen had won, he would be really happy and these would be the best regulations ever.”
This triggered a response from Verstappen Sr, who, on his X account, responded: “Hi Guenther. I understand why you not a F1 team boss anymore. The way you talk”.
Verstappen has been on record with offering a concerned opinion on the new F1 regulations since details were initially released.
This was raised by Verstappen’s GT3 teammate, Dani Juncadella, who also took to X to wade in on Steiner’s remarks.
“Guy [Verstappen] has warned everyone about the new regs since 2023 but the head of the consortium that acquired the Tech 3 MotoGP team knows better,” he wrote.
Verstappen was also vocal in his displeasure with the previous ‘ground-effect’ era, in which he took three of his four World Championships, and has called for a return to “pure racing” amid the possibility F1 will go back to using V8 engines in 2031.
