Sergio Perez delivers ‘one of the best’ F1 drivers verdict amid Cadillac ‘impatience’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Sergio Perez has indicated happiness with his performances in the first five Grands Prix of the Formula 1 season, saying he is happy to “prove it to myself that I’m one of the best out there.”

The Mexican was ousted by Red Bull upon the conclusion of the 2024 season, leaving him in the F1 wilderness in 2025, unable to find a drive in time.

Spending a whole year smarting at his axing from the Milton Keynes-based squad, Perez was handed a career reprieve with Cadillac.

There is no doubt that 36-year-old set out on his return determined to show his former team, and the wider F1 community, his talent had not left him, and at the Canadian Grand Prix, cast a positive verdict on his own performances.

“I’m very happy with my performances, with my level of driving,” he told media, including Motorsport Week, at the Canadian Grand Prix. “I’m happy I came back and prove it to myself that I’m one of the best out there.

“So that to me is really nice, and I’m very happy with the level of driving I’m doing.”

Sergio Perez reveals ‘impatience’ as Cadillac improvements take shape

For Cadillac, its debut season, amid the implementation of F1’s radical new technical regulations cycle, was always going to a tough one.

Perez and teammate Valtteri Bottas are bringing much-needed on-track experience, with Team Principal Graeme Lowdon tasked with leading from the pit wall.

The team is now five races into its F1 journey and Perez, whilst acknowledging where improvements are being made, conveyed he is chomping at the bit to see further steps being taken.

“I’m impatient at the moment with the operational side,” he said. “I think it’s something that we have to improve and we are in a massive hurry because we are not maximising the results.

“Today [in the race], for example. Yesterday in qualifying, we had issues again, operationally.

“I think we are making progress on performance, which is very positive, but on the operational side, is something that we are lacking tremendously, and we have to really find our way for the European season.”

Cadillac has produced an admirable set of results under the circumstances of the new ruleset and being a brand new team.

Both Perez and Bottas’ input is no doubt invaluable, with Perez also focused on showing his worth after his enforced sabbatical, and went some way in Montreal, finishing a brilliant 11th on the road in the Sprint Race, before being demoted to 14th after a time penalty.
