Max Verstappen has held talks with Ford about a drive for a potential entry for the American marque in the Le Mans 24 Hours, according to reports.
The Dutchman has been further aligning himself to sportscar racing this year, with more outings at the Nurburgring, ahead of his participation in that circuit’s 24-hour race.
It comes as Verstappen appears increasingly dissatisfied with Formula 1, amid a difficult start to the season with an underperforming Red Bull.
However, the RB22 has, bolted into it its first in-house powertrain, built with Ford, which has exceeded expectations in terms of its own performance, regardless of the car as a whole.
And there is no doubt that Ford are looking to make waves in further areas of motorsport, with its WEC Hypercar project – with former F1 driver Logan Sargeant at the wheel – coming soon.
And, according to DailySportscar.com, Ford Racing chief Mark Rushbrook told reporters that the brand and Verstappen have discussed the possibility of a future Le Mans partnership.
“We would love to see that,” he sai.
“A lot of things need to align for that to happen, but that would of course be incredible for us, for the sport.”
However, Rushbrook quashed an idea that Verstappen would be part of its 2027 line-up, with Sargeant being partnered by Seb Priaulx and Mike Rockenfeller.
“Depending on the schedules, it could be during [his F1 career] or both [during and after his F1 stint],” he said.
“Discussions go back three-plus years. It’s just looking for the right opportunity with the right programs.”
Verstappen is no doubt looking to eye marquee races to add to his long list of achievements, and with endurance racing experience already gained, who’d bet against him one day driving in the biggest endurance race of all?
