The Miami GP is set for a significant change from F1 this year

The FIA has announced that the first free practice session for next weekend’s Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix will be extended by half-an-hour, due to impending ‘refinements’ to the sport’s new controversial regulations cycle.

Last week, a crunch meeting between F1 and its governing body resulted in tweaks to the new ruleset, which has been handed negative reviews from multiple drivers, as well as fans, after just three Grands Prix.

A multitude of adjustments include that within energy management in qualifying, race starts and racing in wet conditions.

And in a brief statement from the FIA, it was confirmed that: “Following consultation with it has been agreed that Free Practice 1 (FP1) at the Miami Grand Prix will be extended to 90 minutes.”

Therefore, the session will run from 12:00PM to 13:30 local time, with all other sessions due [with Formula 2 taking place as part of its revised calendar, due to the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian GPs] moved forward by 30 minutes.
