FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has stated he was “delighted” with the outcome of what he described as “invaluable” feedback from Formula 1 drivers in a meeting to discuss potential changes to this year’s new ruleset.

With criticism of the new technical regulations at a worrying high, the enforced five-week break between the Japanese and Miami Grands Prix opened up a chance for the sport’s governing body and the 22-strong grid to discuss how to resolve their concerns.

Not only are the new regulations causing discontent amongst many on the grid, notably four-time World Champion Max Verstappen and reigning World Champion Lando Norris, but theyre are now increased safety concerns after Oliver Bearman’s frightening accident at Suzuka.

The FIA promises “aces” up its sleeves in terms of affording leeway in alterations of the maligned new rules after the opening round in Melbourne, with talks already set in stone prior to the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix cancellations.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem will have a second term as FIA president
Mohammed Ben Sulayem described the talks with F1 drivers as “invaluable”

Ben Sulayem revealed in a statement released on Sunday that, ahead of today’s [Monday, April 20] crunch meeting between the FIA and high-ranking F1 team figureheads, there has also been headway made with the drivers.

“I am delighted to report that there has been constructive and collaborative discussion between the FIA and the Formula 1 drivers ahead of tomorrow’s CEOs and team principals meeting to discuss potential changes to the 2026 Regulations,” he said

“The drivers have provided invaluable input on adjustments which they feel should be made, particularly in the areas of energy management to ensure safe, fair and competitive racing.

“The FIA has also held a series of meetings over the past few weeks with technical representatives from the teams, power unit manufacturers and FOM to discuss proposed changes. Safety and the best interests of the sport are the main focus of these discussions.

“Following the meeting tomorrow, the final proposals will be put before a FIA WMSC e-vote.”

There will be bated breath from the drivers and many of the fans who have dissented to the new era to see what changes will be made to ensure a greater spectacle going forward.
