McLaren has a firm grip on the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship, and looks set to retain it at this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix. Motorsport Week explains how.

The Woking-based squad has been the class of the field across much of the 2025 campaign, following on from the seismic progress it showed in 2024, when it snatched the crown from Red Bull.

And with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris now the key Drivers’ Championship protagonists, the papaya wave has risen in 2025, and it looks set to take consecutive Constructors’ titles for the first time since 1991.

At this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, just 13 points are required for the title to be signed, sealed and delivered, with the team currently on 623 points with 303 still to be scored.

This means that if either Norris or Piastri can take a podium finish to secure its success. Mercedes, its nearest challengers, are in prime position for victory, with George Russell on pole.

But even a Russell victory and points from Andrea Kimi Antonelli – who is sandwiched by Piastri and Norris on the grid – would not be enough.

McLaren could have taken the title in Azerbaijan two weeks ago, but Norris’ seventh place and Piastri’s DNF ensured it would go on for one more race at least.

Mercedes, with Russell’s second place and Antonelli’s fourth in Baku saw the German marque overtake Ferrari into second place.

To maintain the fight, Russell and Antonelli would need to score 31 points more than McLaren to keep its slim hopes going until the United States Grand Prix.

Four more points are needed from Ferrari, but with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc sixth and seventh on the grid, the Scuderia’s chances look slim.
