A plethora of iconic Formula 1 items worn by Michael Schumacher have raised hundreds of thousands of Euros at an auction at Monza.
The famous Italian circuit recently opened the ‘Schumacher Lounge’, a hospitality suite created with the support of the Keep Fighting Foundation.
And the same charity was on hand to receive the proceeds of the auction, held over the weekend of the Italian Grand Prix earlier this month.
Items that were sold included a replica helmet with a visor signed by the seven-time World Champion, which fetched €11,520.
A set of overalls from his 1995 season with Benetton, in which he took his second title, sold for €61,360.
And the marquee item of the night, raising the most money, was another set of overalls – this time from his 2000 campaign, in which he took his first title with Ferrari.
These overalls sold for €95,650, completing a successful night for the lounge, Bonhams auctioneers and the charity.
“Our partnership with Bonhams came to life beautifully at the sold-out Schumacher Lounge in Monza and through the online auction that followed,” said Rich Soddy, the founder of the Driver Lounge.
“We’re delighted to see so many of these special items find new homes while raising funds for the Keep Fighting Foundation.
“We thank all the bidders for their support and look forward to bringing Driver Lounge back at a future Grand Prix.”
It is not the first instance of charity fundraising linked to Schumacher, who has not been publicly seen since 2013 after a life-changing skiing accident.
In April, with the help of his wife Corinna, Schumacher signed his initials onto a helmet, along with the other remaining living F1 World Champions, to raise funds for Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race Against Dementia charity.
