Marc Marquez sent a strong message to his championship rivals by posting the quickest time in the first Aragon MotoGP practice session.

The factory Ducati rider posted a truly remarkable lap of 1.46.974s, lapping over a second quicker than the rest of the field.

His main championship rival and brother, Alex Marquez, finished the session 0.970s behind in second.

Silverstone winner Marco Bezzecchi continued the strong momentum to secure third place for Aprilia, ahead of Yamaha rider Alex Rins, who finished fourth.

Tech3 KTM rider Maverick Vinales bounced back from a difficult British Grand Prix to finish fifth in the first practice session in Spain.

Pedro Acosta made it two KTM riders inside the top six positions, but besides Marquez’s brilliance, the following five riders were separated by only 0.2s.

Joan Mir boasted Honda’s best result as the Spaniard secured seventh place, lapping 0.020s ahead of Ducati duo Fermin Aldeguer and Franco Morbidelli.

Francesco Bagnaia ended his first practice session in 10th place, over 1.5s behind his team-mate and half a second behind Alex Marquez.

Fabio Quartararo secured 11th for Yamaha, finishing on the same time as fellow countryman Johann Zarco.

Brad Binder’s woes continued as he secured 13th, with his former team-mate Jack Miller finishing just behind in 14th.

Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez posted a time that put him in 15th place on his debut wildcard outing for the Japanese marque.

Fabio Di Giannantonio ended his session in a worrisome 16th place, but finished comfortably over Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez and the second Tech3 KTM rider of Enea Bastianini.

Miguel Oliveira finished in 19th place, narrowly ahead of LCR rider Somkiat Chantra as both riders finished their first session half a second quicker than Lorenzo Savadori.
