Two-time premier class champion Francesco Bagnaia believes Jorge Martin “must respect” his current Aprilia MotoGP contract.
It was reported that Martin wanted to leave his Aprilia deal early due to a performance clause in his contract.
However, Aprilia released its first official statement ahead of the British MotoGP round, stating that the Italian marque expects Martin to fulfil his duties until the end of his contract in 2026.
Martin’s former championship rival Bagnaia had his say on the matter, stating that the reigning MotoGP champion should respect what was agreed upon.
“I was awaiting some news from Aprilia before starting some ideas about it, and like I was expecting, Aprilia just said that they will continue like they signed their contract,” Bagnaia stated to the media including Motorsport Week.
“When you have a contract, you need to follow it, you cannot cancel it.
“In my opinion, if you take the words about something and if you sign something, you must respect it.
“It could be a problem if someone started to make this kind of chaos like this, like it started to become. So, I think it’s the correct thing.”

Francesco Bagnaia likens abiding by contracts to marriage
Bagnaia went on to explain that fulfilling a contract is like a marriage, emphasising that it requires full commitment, not only to the other party but also to yourself.
“You do your maximum to try to solve the problem,” he stated.
“I think that’s the correct thing to do. It’s like a marriage: if you decide to go forward you must give your maximum to make your life happy.
“I think Aprilia made the correct move, I think Jorge made the correct choice: if you sign a contract, you must respect it.”
