Akkodis ASP Lexus driver Finn Gehrsitz was pleased with his first FIA World Endurance Championship LMGT3 pole position for the 6 Hours of Spa.
“The pressure was on today,” the #78 Lexus RC F LMGT3 driver said in the post-qualifying press conference.
“Now, it is my third race in WEC, so the experience is not as high as that of many other drivers here.
“We were looking at every detail in FP1, FP2, and FP3, and I think now, it was the perfect combination of the car, team, and the driver.
“[It’s] the first Hyperpole for Lexus and Akkodis ASP, also for me in WEC, so I’m super happy that it finally worked out. I didn’t expect it that early… “
“From a young age, it was my biggest dream to compete one day in the WEC.
“From karting, it was already clear that I wanted to become a WEC driver one day.
“It was a hard and long way, honestly, after coming from the Le Mans Cup and the European Le Mans Series into the highest level of endurance racing, away is super nice.
“And of course, for me as a young driver, it’s like a tough competition and it’s a hard fight out there, but I think through this I just learn and grow and get better and better from session to session.
So, having climbed up through the Automobile Club l’Ouest’s ladder of sportscar championships up to the WEC, Gehrsitz stood as the youngest competitor to have taken on the Le Mans Cup, aged 16.
Akkodis ASP scored their best team race finish at Imola, including a podium in the LMGT3 category; thus, they are seeking their first WEC win after just three races this season.
