Polish-based Inter Europol Competition won the 24H of Le Mans for the second time in a row. Jakub Smiechowski, driver and team principal, spoke exclusively to Motorsport Week after his third Le Mans win.
“The last four years have been such a blessing. Coming here and fighting for the win every single time is just a feeling that you can’t get used to,” said Smiechowski after securing a fourth consecutive podium at the French endurance classic. Since winning in class in 2023, the Inter Europol Competition team went on to secure P2 in 2024 and win again in 2025. In this year’s edition, the team managed to get a 1-2, making it the first one since 2017.
“To be honest, I feel this Le Mans we got really lucky because we had the pace, but we had a lot of troubles on the way. And the safety car in the middle of the race really helped us to get back into the game, which I think, without this, we wouldn’t be standing here today where we are. But at the end, everything worked out great.
“I think we were one of the quickest cars out there, so for sure we deserved to win, but without luck it wouldn’t have been possible.”
Since joining the LMP2 classes in 2019, the road to success of the Polish effort has been confirmed by their Le Mans results: “I hope we are one of the top, top teams now at the moment in LMP2, and I think we’ve shown this over the last few years quite well, that wherever we come, we are a danger to everyone else, and wherever we are, we fight for the win. So I feel really proud of the work everyone is putting into the team, because the drivers are just the stars of the show, but without the team behind them, they couldn’t have driven as well. So it’s a really team effort and a great thank you to everyone involved,” explained Smiechowski.
