Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has divulged that the team will introduce “small upgrades” to its 2025 Formula 1 car before the impending “reset” at the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Italian marque’s sombre start to the season hit a new low in Miami as both drivers trailed close to a minute behind the McLaren duo in seventh and eighth places.

Having concluded the previous season 14 points behind McLaren, Ferrari now languishes a concerning 152 points behind the reigning champions six races into 2025.

However, Charles Leclerc has admitted that Ferrari is keen to see whether the clampdown on flexing front wings from Barcelona will cut McLaren’s current advantage.

But while the FIA’s Technical Directive will oblige the arrival of a new front wing, Vasseur has revealed Ferrari will bring new parts in the rounds preceding that change.

“For sure everybody will have a new front wing in Barcelona – by definition and by regulation,” Vasseur told media including Motorsport Week.

“I think it will be perhaps a reset of the performance of everybody.

“Between now and Barcelona, we have Imola and Monaco, we will bring some small upgrades.”

Ferrari hasn’t exploited SF-25 potential

Regardless, Vasseur has remained unwavering in his stance that Ferrari’s SF-25 car possesses more potential than the team has managed to extract to date this year.

“Honestly, I think the main issue today for us, if you consider McLaren, it’s a matter of exploiting the potential, comparing to the others, it’s more to be aggressive to the others,” he explained.

“I think the focus of the team in the next two races is to put everything together and to get the best of the car.”

Vasseur has no doubts on Ferrari drivers

Vasseur insisted it is up to Ferrari to address the car’s current limitations over a single lap to provide Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton with a package to exploit their talent.

“I trust completely Charles and Lewis,” the Frenchman continued.

“Charles, if you have a look at the last five years, and Lewis is the record man of the competition, they are able to do the job in quali, plus on them it’s one of their characteristics.

“Today it’s not the case with this car, but we have to improve, and we have to do a much better job of this stage of the race.”
