Formula 1 pre-season testing finally got underway on Wednesday at the Sakhir Circuit in Bahrain. Running is split across two sessions with a morning and afternoon run for each of the ten teams.
During Wednesday’s opening session, it was Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli that topped the timesheets with a 1:31.428, just beating out Red Bull’s newbie, Liam Lawson. The New Zealander, who takes over Sergio Perez’s seat alongside Max Verstappen, was just over a tenth shy on the same medium tyre compound.
Formula 1 testing times are of course difficult to judge, with unknown run plans and fuel limits as teams look to put their new cars through their paces for the first time.
