Sauber plans to set up a UK hub to support its Audi transformation

Sauber has announced plans to open a new technical centre in the United Kingdom to support the team’s impending transition into the works Audi squad in Formula 1 in 2026.

The Hinwil-based squad is about to embark on its last campaign under the Sauber name before taking on the Audi moniker once the 2026 campaign gets underway.

While the majority of Sauber’s operations will continue in Switzerland, the team wants to expand into the UK to tap into the largest talent pool for F1 expertise.

Sauber is currently one of two teams (including Ferrari) that doesn’t have a foothold in the UK and the nation is widely regarded as the best place to search for talented personnel.

The team wants to buy into this market and encourage talent to support the Audi F1 project and is currently evaluating locations within ‘Motorsport Valley’ to set up a base.

As it stands, Sauber is looking at potential sites in Bicester, Silverstone, and Milton Keynes intending to set up its UK Technical Centre by the summer of 2025.

“We are excited to establish our technical centre in the UK to complement our key site in Hinwil, which will continue to lead our main engineering operations and experience the largest team growth,” said Mattia Binotto, COO and CTO of Sauber Motorsport.

“Expanding into the UK allows us to remain close to one of the world’s most dynamic motorsport ecosystems.

“Our vision is to create a strong, collaborative network across Hinwil and the UK, driving innovation and performance.”
