Sergio Perez’s father says “the best is yet to come” from his son in Formula 1 after he was dropped by Red Bull.

Perez and Red Bull parted ways at the end of the 2024 season after the Mexican endured a difficult campaign.

Unable to get to grips with a dicey RB20, Perez scored 285 points less than team-mate Max Verstappen and that contributed to Red Bull’s slide from first to third in the Constructors’ standings.

After five wins across four years with Red Bull, Perez Sr. believes an F1 comeback will see greater things from his son.

“It’s going to be wonderful,” he told Soy Motor.

“He is the Mexican, the best-known Latin American in the world today, above footballers and celebrities.

“Because in those times, the media didn’t touch a [Ayrton] Senna, a [Juan Manuel] Fangio, they would be more famous with so many championships won.

“The best version of Checo Pérez is yet to come.

“Everybody is going to be very happy and very proud.

“What Checo Pérez did until the past was this. What is coming will be historic, I assure you.

“Very big things are coming for the Pérez, the only thing I tell you is that we Pérez have not left F1.”

Marko and Horner tip Perez for F1 return

Red Bull Advisor Helmut Marko and Team Principal Christian Horner have both backed Perez to make an F1 return in 2026.

Speaking to Sport.de, Marko said:  “I think he still hopes for Formula 1, although of course all the seats for next year have been given away.

“But if he sits on the sidelines for one year, then of course, as an experienced driver, there can always be new opportunities for him,” the Austrian concluded.

One opportunity could come with Cadillac, poised to join F1 as its 11th team next year.

The American marque could certainly use the experience of a driver like Perez, which is the assessment made by Horner.

“I wouldn’t at all be surprised if they went for the experience of someone like Sergio if he wants to decide to continue his career in F1,” he told talkSPORT.

The man himself, however, is taking his time before considering his F1 future.

“My priority is to enjoy myself, to do things I haven’t done, to be with my family,” Perez said, as quoted by ESPN Deportes.

“In the next six months, I will make a decision on what I want for the next step in my career.”
