Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans has taken to social media in his first public communication since losing-out on the FIA Formula E Drivers’ Championship.

The Kiwi, along with countryman and team-mate Nick Cassidy, fell short at the final furlong in London and were pipped at the post by Tag Heuer Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein, who claimed his first FE title.

Immediately after the season finale at the ExCel Centre, Evans told Motorsport Week that he was starting to doubt if he would ever win the title, having been so close on previous occasions, saying: “I’m not sure. I’ve been in the battle for the last five years. If it didn’t come today, who knows when it’ll come, if it ever comes?”

On his Instagram account today, Evans said:

“Hey guys, sorry for the radio silence since London. It’s taken a bit of time to process the outcome of the weekend.

“I’m obviously really disappointed to come so close and just miss out on becoming world champion again. Out weekend was strong with pole, FL, 2nd and a 3rd but it just slipped away from us. It’s a difficult one to take but it wasn’t meant to be this season. Congratulations to Pascal and Porsche, they really stepped it up in London and deserved it.”

Despite both drivers coming agonisingly close to the title, their combined efforts helped Jaguar to take their first-ever Teams’ Championship, as well as narrowly taking the inaugural Formula E Manufacturers’ crown. Evans went on to acknowledge this in the post.

“On he flip side I’m happy that we delivered @jaguarracing our first teams world championship. This team that I’ve been with since day 1 deserve it so much and I’m proud they [sic] we got it done.

“I loved all the support that I received through London and also throughout the whole season, it’s honestly been really special – thank you.

“Looking forward to some time off and look towards the future. The fight continues.”
