Sergio Perez will commence Formula 1’s British Grand Prix from the pitlane amid Red Bull’s decision to take on fresher power unit components outside his allocation.
Perez’s recent slump in competitiveness has continued at Silverstone as he spun at Copse on a damp track in Q1 and became beached in the gravel, sending him out.
The Mexican qualified with the second slowest time as Pierre Gasly’s 50-place grid drop saw him elect to not venture back out once the track conditions had dried up.
With Perez resigned to starting at the back regardless, Red Bull has elected to fit his car with a new Internal Combustion Engine, Energy Store and Control Electronics.
Meanwhile, Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen incurred a damaged floor from a wide moment at Copse and finished fourth, behind the Mercedes’ and Lando Norris.
