Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso clocked the fastest time in the second practice session ahead of this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The two-time World Champion topped the timesheets with a best effort of 1:28.827s, clearing the lap that George Russell produced at a later date by 0.230 seconds.

Max Verstappen had topped the opening practice hour ran in the daytime at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit but slipped back to third place, a tenth down on Russell.

Charles Leclerc split the two Red Bull cars in the lead Ferrari, with Lance Stroll winding up sixth in the second Aston Martin – but five-tenths down on his team-mate.

An unwell Carlos Sainz was seventh, ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes and Pierre Gasly in a shock ninth for Alpine. Oscar Piastri completed the top 10 for McLaren.
