Aston Martin Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll has been referred to the FIA’s Compliance Officer in the wake of the Qatar Grand Prix.
It has not been outlined which incidents the governing body is directly addressing.
In a short statement issued on Tuesday evening the FIA confirmed that its Compliance Officer “is in discussion with Lance Stroll in relation to several incidents that may have contravened FIA rules, policies and procedures during the Qatar Grand Prix.”
Footage captured by Formula 1 after Friday’s qualifying session showed Stroll having a terse altercation with his Performance Coach, Henry Howe, after being eliminated from Q1.
Howe was trying to direct Stroll to the front of Aston Martin’s garage, in the wake of a new directive being issued, informing that drivers must only walk through the pit lane to be weighed in the FIA garage, rather than through the paddock.
Stroll dismissed the incident 24 hours later, insisting he and Howe “are bros” and that “we go through the frustrations together and we ride together, so we’re cool.”
Aston Martin boss Mike Krack would also not be drawn on the incident and pointed to frustrations boiling over in other sports, calling it a “heat of the moment” reaction.
Stroll was also one of the drivers who voiced his concern about the extreme conditions during Sunday’s race, suggesting afterwards he had passed out in the AMR23, before struggling to extricate himself from the car at the finish.
