McLaren set a new all-time world record for the fastest pit stop in Formula 1 history during Sunday’s Qatar Grand Prix.

Aside from being fast on the track to scoop another double podium, McLaren also proved to be the outright quickest team in the pitlane on Sunday at the Lusail International Circuit.

During a race which witnessed 54 pit stops amid the FIA enforcing a mandatory 18-lap maximum stint rule, the McLaren crew serviced Lando Norris in just 1.80s on Lap 27.

That marginally eclipsed the previous benchmark set by Red Bull at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix by 0.002s.

McLaren’s feat has been made all the more impressive as it has arrived in the era of 18-inch tyres, introduced only last year.

Meanwhile, the second-fastest pit stop of the 2023 season was also clocked on Sunday by Ferrari, who managed to leave Charles Leclerc stationary for only 1.93s.

Both efforts pipped Red Bull’s previous outstanding best this year, which stood at 1.98s from the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Despite its seasonal and all-time records falling on the same night, Red Bull remain clear at the head of the DHL overall pit stop standings with 436 points, 76 clear of Ferrari.

The recently crowned Constructors’ Champions have been responsible for four of the fastest 10 pit stops so far this year, now equal with McLaren.

On Sunday, @McLarenF1 produced the fastest pit stop of ALL TIME! 😱

A ridiculous 1.80s stop for @LandoNorris earns them the @DHL_Motorsports Fastest Pit Stop in Qatar!
