Logan Sargeant believes that the familiarity of the upcoming European races will boost his confidence after a mixed start to the season.
The American driver, who is one of three rookies on the gird in 2023, has endured varied fortunes so far this campaign. Sargeant picked up a P12 finish in Bahrain but suffered a DNF in Australia after colliding with Nyck de Vries in the closing stages of the race.
The Williams driver ran into further issues at the following two street circuits of Azerbaijan and Miami and is yet to pick up a single point.
“I feel like we can’t escape street tracks at the minute,” Sargeant said.
Sargeant hopes that the familiar tracks of the European leg will provide him with added confidence. When asked if he was happy to be at a track he’s more familiar with, he replied: “Definitely, it’s a much nicer feeling coming back to the European leg.
“Excluding Montreal, all are the tracks I’ve raced on forever, all the tracks I know extremely well.
“Because Imola was cancelled, we’ve done so much since Miami prepping for the next three rounds, sorry, what were three rounds, now the next two [Monaco and Spain]. We’ve done a lot at Monaco and a lot at Spain so we’re as well prepared as we can be.”
Sargeant raced on the streets of Monte-Carlo last year in Formula 2 with Carlin, finishing the Sprint race in P10 and the Feature race in P9.
“Last year [Monaco] was one of my favourite races to be at. It was a special weekend even though it didn’t go as well as it could have but just the energy of the weekend I really enjoy as a whole.
“From when I’ve spoken to Alex [Albon] about it he said the speed difference from F2 to F1 around here is pretty insane so it’s going to take a few laps to get up to that but three practice sessions to build up to it.
“It’s a track I love driving so I think it will be fun.”
However, Sargeant conceded that the nature of the narrow Monaco circuit is likely to cause problems for Williams this weekend.
“It’s a tight twisty circuit which isn’t preferred for us but you never know. I think we’ll do our best to get it into the best window possible, but I expect a tricky weekend.”
