Max Verstappen will miss Thursday’s duties at Formula 1’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix due to illness.
Double World Champion Verstappen opened the new season with pole position and victory in Bahrain to take a seven-point lead into this weekend’s second event at Jeddah.
Verstappen has received dispensation from the FIA to miss Thursday’s track duties – including media activities – before returning to action for practice on Friday.
“Feeling fine again, after not being fit for a few days because of a stomach bug,” Verstappen wrote on social media.
“Therefore, I unfortunately had to postpone my flight for a day, so I won’t be on the track until Friday. See you in Jeddah!”
Verstappen claimed victory at last year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after fending off Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc during a race-long battle.
Leclerc will enter Sunday’s race with a 10-place grid demotion after taking a third Control Electronics of the year.
